Current Projects

Green Mobility

Upgraded 15 rickshaws registered with the Kelantan State Tourism Information Center to electric rickshaws as one of the State Government’s efforts in enhancing the lifestyle of the rickshaw cyclers and as one of the tourists’ attractions. The use of e-buggy (electric buggy) at Mini Zoo Kuala Krai.

Waste Management

1. Disposal Sites Managing and operating disposal sites in Bachok (Beris Lalang), Tumpat (Kok Bedolah) and Tanah Merah (Bukit Che Ros).

2. Conducting the Landfill Mining project at the Beris Lalang site starting February 2023 to re-extract old waste, extend the lifespan of existing sites and produce compost and more sustainable recyclable materials. This technology combines bio-drying processes and Material Recovery Facility (MRF) to re-extract waste from old disposal sites and produce useful products such as compost and Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF). This initiative not only helps restore disposal sites for reuse, but also targets capacity increase from 50 tons per day to 500 tons per day within four years with yields of 30% compost and 20% commercially valuable recyclable materials.

3. Has started Black Soldier Fly (BSF) larvae farming at Pasir Mas and Tanah Merah wholesale markets to manage organic waste to produce animal feed and organic fertilizer.

Renewable Energy

1. The Danau Tok Uban Floating Solar Project in Pasir Mas, Kelantan is a joint venture between Kelantan Utilities Mubaarakan and Cypark Resources Berhad which has made it among the largest floating solar farms in Southeast Asia. With a capacity of 60 megawatts AC, this project began commercial operation (COD) in two phases namely DTU1 on 7 January 2025 and DTU2 on 31 January 2025. It can supply clean energy to more than 46,000 households and reduce carbon emissions by up to 179,000 tons per year.

2. On 10 October 2024, KUM signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sultan Ismail Petra International Islamic University College (KIAS) during the IGEM 2024 exhibition at KLCC. The project aims to install solar photovoltaic (PV) systems in the KIAS campus area as a model for renewable energy use in educational institutions.

Digitalisation

KUM is developing the Green Practices Community Program (e-PKAH) system as an initiative to strengthen sustainability education towards circular economy in Kelantan state. This system facilitates the community to know locations and programs related to sustainability and makes it easier for the community to separate solid waste at source. The e-PKAH system is developed by KUM’s own internal staff.

Water Technology Division

Kelantan now has the first HDPE pipe manufacturing plant on the East Coast, namely Kel-Intaaj Sdn Bhd located in Pengkalan Chepa, Kota Bharu. Owned by Kelantan Utilities Mubaarakan (KUM) in collaboration with Dura Mine Sdn Bhd from Selangor, this factory started its operations with two machine units to produce pipes sized 20-75 mm and 110-225 mm and plans to add capacity according to current demand.

Future Projects

Solar System

Project at IPTA, IPTS, State Government, Private Premises and homes.

Biogas Plant

KUM has collaborated with SC Green to develop a biogas plant that uses organic waste from disposal sites to generate electricity up to 1.2 megawatts, while reducing daily waste volume by up to 50%. This project is also equipped with Material Recovery Facility (MRF) facilities that function to separate non-organic waste such as plastic, paper, metal, and glass for recycling or systematic disposal, while organic waste is sent to the biogas plant or Black Soldier Fly (BSF) larvae farming center for recovery purposes and generation of more sustainable new resources.

Bamboo Biochip

KUM has established an associate company, Maju Kastera Mubaarakan Sdn Bhd (MKM) to export Bamboo Biochip to Japan.
